Old Town Bistro Celebrates Grand Opening
Novato, California
The Old Town Bistro in Novato, located at 807 Grant Avenue, celebrated its grand opening under its new name on February 1, 2010. The restaurant, formerly known as the Golden Egg Omelet House, is now open for breakfast, lunch and also dinner.
The Old Town Bistro now offers a streamlined menu featuring fresh, local ingredients and specializing in American comfort food. Breakfasts and lunches include new omelets and new sandwiches. Dinners will feature old favorites for affordable family dining such as meatloaf and mashed potatoes, fish, pasta, and burgers, all prepared from fresh local products where possible. Besides its new hours and new menu, the restaurant offers a full bar, including its famous Bloody Mary with breakfast.
"It's traditional, but with a new twist," says Mark Kaplan, manager of the Old Town Bistro. Kaplan was formerly the owner of the Redwood Café in San Rafael.
The restaurant originally opened 35 years ago. It is now part of the well-regarded Lotus family of restaurants, including Anokha Cuisine, located next door to the Old Town Bistro at 811 Grant Avenue; Lotus Cuisine in San Rafael; and Lotus Café in Fairfax.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
The Lotus Family of Restaurants is going Green, Greener, Greenest! We are moving toward a more sustainable, enlightened food service.
Here is a short list of what our restaurants are doing to reduce our environmental footprint. These include things such as food choices and packaging which our customers will notice when dining at our establishments.
We use compostable and recyclable plates Lotus Family uses biodegradable plates and utensils made from corn for our takeout. These plates and utensils won't sit in landfills for a thousand years.
NEW! We offer a 5% additional discount if you bring your own containers! If you dine in please bring your own container for your leftovers and get 5% off. If you bring your container for leftovers please mention this to our waiter during while placing your order. And if you bring your own container for take out please mention this directly in your order. Also allow an additional 15 minutes during pickup. Why not make this your New Year's Resolution? Bring your own containers to pack up leftovers. We believe that more restaurants should encourage customers to do this!
We don't serve imperiled species. Our tiger prawns are from Asia. Our lamb is all natural, kosher and usually comes from Australia. Our chickens and eggs are from the Fulton Valley Poultry and Petaluma Farms. We will not serve bluefin tuna, chilean sea bass, grouper, atlantic swordfish, or any other imperiled species. To learn more consult the Monterey Bay Aquarium's www.SeafoodWatch.org.
We serve LESS meat, and the meat we serve is NOT factory farmed. Commodity meat produced in cruel, environmentally damaging conditions is unfortunately the norm. We want to show our commitment to doing the right thing, so we have eliminated industrially raised meat and reduced meat overall. The majority of our meals are vegetarian and vegan, and we are serving more vegetarian options that ever before. The production and distribution of industrial meat contributes significantly to climate-warming gases. We all need to eat less of it.
We serve seasonal and local produce whenever available We purchase locally grown and organic produce whenever possible. About 90% of our food is fresh, local and in season. Because we know that produce in season tastes better! It also costs less, supports local growers and doesn't need to be air-freighted from abroad. Our local sustainable produce includes cauliflower, carrots, cilantro, mint, eggplant, and beans
Don't Panic, Go Organic! We will gladly pay up to 25% more for organic produce. We serve organic food, much of it is local as well. Some items are certified organic, others are grown without chemical and are just as good. We care about food quality as well as the a healthy environment for all of us. We purchase from reputable local farmers and farmers markets such as Oakland's wholesale produce market and the Meadowbrook Farms in Nicasio. www.meadowbrook-nicasio.com
