Novato has one name for excellent Indian Food: Anokha Cuisine of India.

Anokha is part of a renowned chain of fine Indian Restaurants in Marin. Owner Surinder “Pal” Sroa, owns the award-winning Lotus Cuisine as well as Lotus Chaat in San Rafael and Café Lotus in Fairfax. Pal has been a resident of Novato since 1987 and feels privileged to run the best Indian restaurant in his home town.

Located in Old Town Novato at 811 Grant Avenue, it is open daily for lunch or dinner, eat-in or take-out. A delicious lunch buffet is served every day. Anokha is also available for private parties and catering.

“Anokha” means different and unique, and Anokha Cuisine creates an exceptional dining experience. In this family-owned restaurant authentic
home-style cuisine of Northern Indian is lovingly prepared from the freshest ingredients, personally selected, local and organic where available.

Chef Hardip “Bagga” Singh also uses fresh spices, many imported directly from India. All food is cooked using pure canola and olive oils, with no saturated fats, dyes, chemicals or MSG. Most of the food is also gluten-free.

The generous menu of delicious Indian food includes vegan and vegetarian delicacies.

Specialties include Tandoori dishes (cooked in a cylindrical clay tandoor oven). Anokha also features vegetarian, lamb, seafood or chicken curries. Appetizers are served with house-made hot green mint sauce, or sweet tamarind sauce, and the restaurant serves nine varieties of Indian breads.

Foods can also be prepared according to particular tastes or needs — gluten-free or with varying degrees of spice and oil.

Sroa is also owner of the Golden Egg Omelet House, located next door to Anokha Cuisine at 807 Grant Avenue.
